Biography: Mr Fakiya attended Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, from 1970 to 1972 and obtained the NCE Diploma of the Institute of Education, University of Ife with majors in Mathematics, Geography and Education in June 1972. He later headed to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka on Federal Scholarship and graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) Degree in Statistics with Second Class Upper Division in June 1976. On completion of the NYSC in 1977 he was awarded the Ondo State Postgraduate Scholarship to study Statistics at Iowa State University in Ames, USA. After completion of the Masters Programme in 1980, he was recruited by UNN as Assistant Lecturer in Statistics from June 1981 to August 1982 before moving in September 1982 to FUTA as Lecturer II and eventually became the Pioneer academic staff of the Department of Industrial Mathematics and Computer Technology. He established the department as the only permanent staff of the department during the First Session (1982/1983). He remained with the department until March 1991 when as Lecturer I he moved to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, F.U.T Minna, where he collaborated to establish Computer Science and Statistics as a combined degree option in the Department. He was recruited from Minna in March 1992 as Senior Statistician by the United Nations Development System in Nigeria. He worked in Lagos from 1992 to 1997 when he was moved to Kaduna to be in charge of the UNDP Office to oversee the UNDP activities in the North Western States of Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi and Sokoto. By October 2000, he joined the UNICEF as Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and moved to Enugu to oversee PME activities of the UN agency in the five states of the South East including Akwa_ibom, Rivers and Cross Rivers States. On cessation of contract with UNICEF in April 2002, he joined FUTA in August 2003 as the Pioneer Administrative Secretary and Manager of the newly established Centre for Research and Development (CERAD). Mr Fakiya left FUTA in December 2011 to join Achievers University in January 2012 as Senior Lecturer in Statistics. On assumption of duty, he became the Ag HOD of the Department of Maths, Statistics and Computer System. In addition, he later served as SIWES Coordinator for the University from 2015 to 2018. He was same time a member of Senate and some other Committee of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences.
